A True Identity or a Coming Out

We live in an age where often we hear that a rock star or a celebrity has come out. This normally refers to the sexual lifestyle that they are leading. In scriptural terms we would call it Sodomy.

Recently I bought a bottle of aftershave called “True Identity”. What is your true identity? There used to be a program on TV some years back where people had to guess the true identity of a person. The panel would be shown the home of the person in question to help them guess the identity of the mystery person.. There were other programmes where many would act out a certain profession but only one was the genuine article. At the end of the show the one who was genuine would step forward.

The verse that we have read gives us the account of Joseph of Arimathaea coming out. This is the first time where he was willing to show his True Identity. Joseph had been a secret disciple of Jesus Christ for some time. Are you a secret disciple of Jesus Christ? Fear is a terrible thing. In most cases FEAR is False Evidence Appearing Real. Why are you a secret disciple? Are you afraid? Think about what Christ has done for you and identify with His death and resurrection.

There was another character in the Bible who showed his True Identity. He Came Out in Matthew 26:47-49. Judas had acted the part of a disciple for nearly 3 years but he was not. His True Identity was now exposed. Are you living a life that is a lie? Do others think that you are a Christian? Do you act like a Christian? Do you go to church and dress like a Christian? You might even be like Judas and kiss the Lord but your heart is still black with sin.

There is coming a day when everyone’s IDENTITY will be manifest. The Bible tells us of the 2 houses. One was built on the sand and the other was built on the rock. From the outside they both looked the same until the waters came. There will be a time of testing or Judgement. How will you stand on that day? Are you prepared for eternity?

Make you calling and election sure.

Young person if you are living a lie today like Judas then repent and turn to Jesus Christ who is the only way of salvation. If you are a secret disciple like Joseph then step forward and declare your allegiance to Christ Jesus.
