Word for the Week

Sunday 11 November

Ecclesiastes 12:1
Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth

Remember
New Page 1

What does remember mean? It means to keep in one’s mind and to recall at will. It is to recall, recognise, recollect, reminisce, retain, and summon up or to think back. This week has been a week of remembering. We are exhorted to “remember remember” the 5th November. Today the 11th November has seen thousands of people remember the sacrifice of soldiers who died in the 1st and 2nd World Wars. It has been a time of looking back.

What does God ask us to remember? As young people maybe we should start with the next verse.

Ecclesiastes 12:1 Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them;

Sometimes this verse could be used for the unsaved young person. Is it time that you thought of Jesus Christ who was the Creator of this universe. A survey was taken among a group of people of when they had come to know the Lord Jesus Christ as their Saviour. The majority came to know Him in their youth. The older they got the percentage became less. Have you put your trust in the Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour? If not you should do it now while you are yet young.

This verse could also be used for the young person who is saved but has backslidden and has forgotten about the Lord. Is it time for you to remember your Creator and Saviour? It is time to repent and turn to the Lord for mercy.

Exodus 20:8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

This verse calls us to remember God’s commandments and especially His day. The shorter catechism says, “The sum of the ten commandments is, To love the Lord our God with all our heart, with all our soul, with all our strength, and with all our mind; and our neighbour as ourselves.”

If we love the Lord then we will obey His commandments and keep His day holy. A good study for you would be the study of what is it to keep the sabbath day holy.

Psalm 77:11 I will remember the works of the LORD: surely I will remember thy wonders of old.

As we look back over the pages of scripture it is good to remember the works of the Lord. It is good to remember the great victories of God and the great miracles that were preformed by Jesus Christ. Have you seen and known the work of God in your life? It reminds us that God is a great, powerful and a merciful God.

Young person: recall – recognise – recollect – reminisce – retain - REMEMBER!!
