Word for the Week

Sunday 9 December

Acts 20:35
I have shewed you all things, how that labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.

Support the Weak
Who are the weak? As we look at the local church we may see people who are weak in the faith, there may be others who are physically sick or others who may be mentally sick. It is according to this scripture our duty to support the weak.

There are many who are weak due to their sinful activities.

One example is of Samson when his hair was cut. He lost his strength and became weak. Another example was when the Corinthians failed to examine themselves at the Lord’s table. The result can be found in 1 Corinthians 11:30 where it shows that they became weak, sickly and even some of them died. We need to be careful how we live our Christian life. Are you spiritually weak today due to sin? Return to the Lord, repent while you have yet have time!

Today I want you to think of others who are weak due to other reasons. Who are the weak?

• Those who are bullied at school, workplace or at home • The young girls that are forced into prostitution • The poor of society or those of famine stricken lands • The OAPs • The lonely and homeless • The deaf, dumb and the blind

These are a small selection of the weak in our world today. This is not to belittle anyone but rather that it might spur us to actively reach out to those in need. It is important to note that in order to support the weak we must be a people that labour.

We must work to help where we can. It may be that we cannot help some in a physical way but we can assist them financially or support help groups.

Young person get your eyes on the needs of others and support the weak. Look to the needs of those in your school. Those that are bullied or those who need help with their studies.

May others come to know us as a people who are willing to help. We need to be a people who are willing to labour, to support and willing to give to meet the needs of others.

Open your eyes and ears this week and support the weak. Remember “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”
