Matthew 1:21
And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins

Christmas
New Page 1

If you have not realised it yet Christmas is coming. What does Christmas mean to you? To many it is a time for family, friends and feasting. I am sure we will experience this in some way. To others it is also a time of commercialism. Even on the day that many used to worship Jesus, they are now worshipping at the altar of commercialism. The superstores and retail parks are full.

Many have forgotten what the true meaning of Christmas is. Let us look at the true meaning of CHRISTMAS.

The true meaning of CHRISTMAS is CHRIST!

C – Coming of the Child

Matthew 1:21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins

Here we have the true meaning of Christmas. It is the coming of the Child and not commercialism.

H – Hatefulness of Herod

Matthew 2:16  Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently enquired of the wise men.

Herod was a man who was afraid that Jesus was going to capture his throne. Many people today hate Christ and would still kill him if He lived today. Have you been dethroned from the throne of your heart? Have you let Jesus Christ have full control in your life or are you still allowing “I” to rule and reign in your heart today.

R – Rebellion of the Rulers

Matthew 2:3-6 When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born. And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet, And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.

The religious rulers of the day knew where their Messiah would be born but they would not go and seek him out. They rebelled against Him. They did not want Him to rule their life. It is not surprising that Jesus Christ used the religious leaders as a black background to many of His stories.

I – Indifference of the Innkeeper

Luke 2:7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

I am sure that when you have guests you try and give them the very best. I have known us to give up our own bed so that others can have somewhere comfortable to stay. If only the innkeeper had known who wanted a bed that night. Maybe you are like the innkeeper who had no room for Jesus Christ. What is the sign on the door of your heart? Is it a sign of WELCOME or is does it say NO ROOM?

S – Seeking Shepherds

Luke 2:15  ….the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.

You have heard about this man called Jesus. What will be your response be? Will you be like the shepherds and seek out God manifest in the flesh? Seek the Lord while there is yet time and call upon Him for salvation. The Bible says that if we seek Him we shall find Him.

T – Treasures from the Travellers

Matthew 2:11 And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.

Christ received gifts of Gold as a sign of His position as King of Kings, Frankincense for His position of High Priest and Myrrh for His burial. Let us never forget that Jesus Christ came into this world as a little babe to grow up and then die for His people on Calvary.

Enjoy Christmas for the right reasons.
