Proverbs 3:6
In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy paths,

Decisions, Decisions....

Many of you are in the middle of exams at the moment; end of term exams, work exams and for others GCSE’s, A-levels, or university exams. I wish you every success in these and trust that you will keep the head down and keep studying, remember they will not last forever.

But what about when the results come out and you have to make decisions about your next step, more studying, or maybe to take up employment? How do you know what way you should go, how can you be sure that you are doing the right thing?

These are all questions that we all have faced at some stage in our life and it all relates to God’s will for our life. We should always seek out what God wants us to do with our lives, not what we want, because remember God has a specific will for each of our lives.

And so lets consider Gods will for us. God’s will can be split into 2 types:

1 – Gods Sovereign Will for My Life - This applies to all mankind.

2 Peter 3:9 – 'not willing that any should perish..'
It is Gods will that first of all we should be saved and have that personal relationship with Jesus Christ as our Saviour.
Then we should seek to love for God and to bring glory to His name in all we do.
Micah 6:8 - and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?

2 – Gods Specific Will for My Life - This applies to your life individually.

For example, what course should do, what career should seek, who should we marry, where should we live. Remember God will reveal His will for your life to YOU, not to someone else. Therefore how can we know what Gods SPECIFIC will is for my life?
We need to have:

Right Attitude/Mind – Rom 12:2 – Present Your bodies,
We need to be available to God and to be willing to be led by God.
Psalm 143:8+9, Psalm 86:11

Right Prayer – Acts 9:6, Lord what wilt thou have me to do?
We need to pray daily to God for Him to lead us

Right Book – Psalm 119:105 – Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet.
We need to read the bible systemically every day and ask God to speak to us through His word.
Psalm 119:133 – Order my steps in thy word.
The Bible is the best careers book that you could read.

Right People – Prov 11:14 – in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.
We need to speak about our thoughts to Godly people and seek out wise counsel and advice.

Right Feeling/Thoughts – Isaiah 26:3 - Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee:
When God reveals His specific will to us, we will have peace in our hearts that we are doing the right thing. Circumstances will often play a part in Gods will.

We have led out for us a beautiful picture of Gods specific will in Genesis chapter 24 when Abraham’s servant was seeking a wife for Isaac.

V10 he was available
V11 he prayed for specific direction
V21 felt the peace of God that this was right
V27 – I being in the way, the Lord led me.

Because he was willing to be led by God and because he was in the way that God wanted him to be in, then God led him perfectly in a remarkable way.

Young people seek out God’s will for your life, you will only be happy when you are sure that you are in the centre of where God wants you to be.

Submit to His will and your life will be filled with peace and contentment that you are doing the right course, studying the right subjects and in the right employment.

Maybe God is calling you into His service full time to be a missionary, a minister, whatever, then as Corrie ten Boone said, 'Never be afraid to trust and unknown future to a known God'.

Remember

In all thy ways - in other words in every decision that you make,

Acknowledge God - seek out His will and plan, be available and

He shall direct thy paths – He will lead you in the best way for your life.
