Running on Empty Then Fill Up
It seems that no matter how economical your car is, on either diesel or petrol, all we seem to do is constantly fill up the tank. Of course with the price that fuel is at the moment, we seem to notice it even more and certainly the old bank account tells the tale of higher fuel bills.
This week I was struck by dire warnings from certain people that the ongoing tankers strike could lead to a shortage of fuel, if the dispute was not resolved. It really causes you to realise just how dependent we are on so many of lifes essentials.
Of course there is no point in having a car simply to sit in the garage or the driveway, a car with no fuel is useless and serves no purpose apart from looking good on the outside.
When we consider our Christian life, how often it seems that we are running on empty, all may look well on the outside, we say the right things, we do the right things but inside, our spiritual tank is empty.
Often life has a remarkable way of draining the life out of us, it can rob us of our joy and our happiness, we no longer have the desire to serve God, and we no longer have the zeal to live for God that we used to have.
It's then that we need to refocus our mind on God, it's then that we need to step aside and fill up our Christian life.
But how do we do this? well Isaiah points to the secret of this, when he calls us to wait on the Lord. We are always in a hurry, everything needs to be done now, but God says 'Wait'.
We are to wait on Him in His presence we need to set that time aside each to pray to God and ask Him to renew our strength, ask Him to help us in the day that lies ahead.
We are to wait on Him in His Word the Bible is a living book, because as we read it God speaks to us through his word, he feeds us on the bread of life to strengthen and sustain our life.
We are to wait on Him in His time how easy it is to think that we have all the answers to life and the situations that we face, but rather God says Wait for me, God speaking through Jeremiah, he says, 'I will show thee great and mighty things'. God has great things in store for your life, but you must be prepared to wait as God works out His plan in our life.
Maybe all the studying for exams or working in the office has left you feeling drained and empty, maybe you have lost the joy of Gods salvation, then STOP, wait on the Lord, ask for His strength and for His help each day and when we do he promises to fill us up.
When we wait on God we will
Mount Up with wings as eagles
Run and not be weary
Walk - and not faint.
Are you running on empty in your Christian life, then let me encourage you to wait on God and He will fill us up, he will give us life and that more abundantly.
