What is your life?
There is hardly a day goes by but we do not ask many questions or that many questions are asked of us. Life is full of questions and each day we face new questions that demand our answer.
I would challenge you even to count the number of questions that you have asked today and also count the number of questions that have been asked of you and it will surprise you just how life is so full of all types of questions.
Some questions that are asked of us have no importance and are just wanting to find out gossip, sometimes ask people ask questions because they just being nosey.
However as you read through the bible, you cannot help but notice the number of questions that are posed in the Word of God. The word of God poses many questions, questions about our eternal salvation, questions about our attitudes, questions about our love for God and others.
James in his epistle poses a very important question for each one of us to consider and to answer. As we consider this question I want to ask 3 more questions about your life. Answer them honestly before God.
1. What is the Purpose of your Life?
Or what is the meaning of your life?
Many people are searching for the purpose to life, what is this life all about? They turn to education to find the answer; they believe that greater understanding might give more knowledge to this great question.
Others turn to science, witchcraft, like star reading, magic etc.
Others to turn to religion – man made religions like Jehovah Witnesses, the Mormons, and other such false religions. All these tell us that the meaning or purpose in life in living according to their teaching.
Others turn to money, believing if they have no money worries then they will purpose in life.
Maybe the purpose of your life is to get a good job and to do well at school, at university, at work.
The search for meaning in life, the search for purpose in life will mean that you will have happiness.
Psalm 144:15 – Happy is that people whose God is the Lord.
The meaning of life is found in God, as when he is our Saviour we will be happy. Happiness is to know the Saviour. Then when we know him as Saviour our purpose in life should be to continually bring glory to God in all that we do.
Listen to the purpose of Paul’s life – Phil3:10 – that I might know him, v14 – I press toward the mark of the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
Does your life have purpose, do you know Jesus as your Saviour?
2. What is the Value of your Life?
Many tonight believe their life has no value, because it has no purpose or meaning. They turn to drugs and ruin their life, turn to alcohol as they believe their life has no value.
1 Corinthians 3:16-17- Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.
How even more sad when young people take their life in suicide – believe that they can do what they want their life and it will make no difference, they never think of the family they have left behind, the broken mothers, fathers. For them their life has absolutely no value.
But your life is valuable, it is very precious. Don't think that your life has no value; don't think that you’re unimportant, because your life is precious.
Jesus gave his life for you, that's how important your life is. Jesus came that he might give you life and life more abundantly./
Your life is valuable to God, don't waste it living it for the devil and sin, and in the pleasures of this world, because they will only ruin your life and make your life worthless.
3. What is the Testimony of your Life?
What do other people see in us, do they see us one of the crowd, going along with everyone else, or would they say, yes there is something different about that person. If you are saved tonight, do other people see Jesus in us?
If you were on trial for being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict you?
Sometimes we can bring dishonour to God by the way we live and the things we do and say and by the places we go to. Some Christians believe they can testify for God in the pub, in the night club, in the disco. You see there are places that the young Christian should not go to and should not be found in because it will not bring glory to God. Always ask in whatever you do, Am I bringing glory to God, will I have a testimony to God, in all that I do.
Maybe you are saved but you know you life does not tell for God, maybe you are breaking your parents hearts by rebelling against the things of God and I would say that if that is you, then you are most miserable, you are not happy. Give your life back to God, have a testimony that brings glory to God.
Sin only brings sadness into your life; sin will only ruin your life. If only the alcoholic had not taken the first drink, if only the drug addict had not taken the first drug, they thought it would do no harm, but now their life is ruined. Sin pays high wages, sin will take you farther than you want to go, slowly but surely taking control.
Give your life to God and He will bring meaning to your life, He will make your life happy and then always seek to live your life according to the word of God, in order to bring glory to God in all that you do.
