Word for the Week

Sunday 28 September

Matthew 6:32
"your Heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all things"

The World is in Crisis...Or is it?

You can’t help but escape all the doom and gloom there is in the world today. This past year has been one of the most challenging years for the world economy, house prices have been falling, food costs have been rising, oil and electricity costs are ever on the increase.

Just this past week, one of the world’s largest financial institutions, Lehman Brothers went bust. Even the great Halifax, almost went under, only being saved by the intervention of the government and another bank.

Everywhere we turn we are bombarded with more doom and gloom and news that the whole world is spinning out of control. One woman even told me this week, that we are on the brink of a world famine.

With all the negative news around at the moment, it is very easy for the Christian to be overcome with this negativity and to believe the devil’s lie that this world is out of control.

I want to encourage you that this world is not out of control, because God is in control. Too often we get so focused on all that is going on around us and lose sight of God. God made this world and all that is in it and so He knows exactly how to control this world.

God has promised never to leave His people and never to forsake us. He has promised to provide and to meet our every need. Matthew chapter 6 is a wonderful chapter on the promise of God’s provision. Matthew asks us to consider the lilies of the field, that they do not toil or spin and yet Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like them. The chapter goes on to tell us that God knows just what we need.

We need not fear the future, because if you are saved, then you know the one who holds the future. No matter how bad things may appear, no matter how out of control the world may be, always remember that God is in control.

To say that the world is in a crisis would be to deny the power of God.

If you don’t know Christ as your Saviour, then you will never know the power of God to control your life and the peace of God in every circumstance of life. Why not trust Him today, experience the joy of sins forgiven.
